How to do Your Best Work in a Self-Taped Audition w/ELLEN NOVACK

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

This three-week workshop – taught by Ellen Novack, esteemed teacher, coach, and author of Taming the Cyclops – is for actors already practiced in their craft who seek to act more effectively and comfortably on camera and to strengthen their ability to create self-tapes that show their best work.

The workshop will consist of a pre-assigned self-tape to be viewed and discussed in the first class. For the second and third classes, there will be continued work on self-taping as well as some time spent on how to audition in the
room. The goal is to give each actor very practical tools to help them prepare to do their best work, whether in self-tapes or in the audition room with the casting director.

ABOUT ELLEN:

Ellen Novack has had a long and varied career with one consistent theme: working with and helping actors. She is currently teaching at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale, where she’s been preparing students to both audition and work in film and TV for 18 years. She has also taught on-camera auditioning at The Juilliard School, American Conservatory Theatre, The New School, New York University, Rutgers University, Columbia University, and the National Theatre Institute. Over the years, her students have included Yahya Abdul-Mateen, Mamoudou Athie, Molly Bernard, Brett Dalton, Winston Duke, Corey Hawkins, Brian Tyree Henry, Aja Naomi King, Lupita Nyong’o, and Allison Williams among many others. She based her book, Taming the Cyclops: How to Do Your Best Work in an On-Camera Audition, on her popular on-camera audition class, which she teaches in New York City. She also coaches actors privately, primarily for audition preparation.
