Focus on Heightened Language w/ Amanda Quaid

Monologue Work w/ AMANDA QUAID

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

This special 4-week workshop focuses on how to activate heightened text and the relationship between emotion and diction. The aim of the techniques that will be taught is freedom in rehearsal and performance.

Amanda will be using a range of playwrights, both classical and contemporary, that require actors to make full use of diction and language skills. Writers include Shakespeare, Shaw, and Beckett as well as Tony Kushner, Suzan-Lori Parks, and Mike Bartlett. Topics include the difference between heightened and naturalistic language, structure, rhythm, energy, sound, and clarity. Since Amanda’s expertise is also in dialects, actors may wish to explore that too. The knowledge gained on how to navigate and orchestrate language will serve the actor, whether it’s used on iambic pentameter or commercial copy for advertising!

Amanda Quaid is revered for her teaching expertise on acting with plays with heightened language.

She is also an accomplished actor on stage and on camera. Click here to read Amanda’s full bio.
